No, but all patients must give their informed consent. Doctors are
likely to encourage young people to involve their parents but the young
person does not have to if the doctor believes they fully
understand the implications of their decision. Doctors must keep
information about patients, including under-16s, confidential, unless
disclosure is to protect the patient, or someone else, from the risk of
significant harm, or if they are required to do so by a court.
