MARCH FOR CHOICE

May 11 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

JOIN US for our peaceful ‘March for Choice’ to counter the ‘March For Life’ on the 11th of May.

MEETING POINT

Millicent Fawcett Statue, Parliament Square.

WHY WE’RE MARCHING

Tails up from the landslide victory of Repeal the 8th and Isle of Man becoming first in the British Isles to decriminalise abortion, we need to keep fighting for our freedoms and our essential reproductive rights

– 1 in 3 women will have at least one abortion in her lifetime
– Increase reports of anti-choice activity around abortion clinics
– Abortion remains illegal in Northern Ireland -abortion is banned in almost all circumstances
-Abortion still remains a crime across the UK. Under the 1861 act, the law criminalises women and doctors alike – The maximum sentence is life in prison.
-Three women have been prosecuted under in the last three years in Northern Ireland.
-Across the globe, abortion rights are under the cosh
-Anti-abortion laws gain more ground in the USA.
-States in the US are introducing new restrictions on abortion in what is being seen as the biggest legislative reversal by pro-life politicians in decades.

The anti-choice, US-inspired ‘March for Life’ will attempt to hold their 6th annual ‘Life fest’ in London. 2 years ago we booted them out of Birmingham and this year we’re going to let them know they ain’t welcome London!

Although ‘March for Life’ try to present a shiny, family-friendly appearance, in reality, it is made up of extreme anti-women, anti-choice, evangelical groups which regularly harass women outside abortion clinics. In addition to opposing abortion, these groups also have links to homophobic, fascist and far-right organisations. ‘March for Life’ supporters also oppose contraception, sex education, and IVF fertility treatment.

OUR STAND
In 2019 women should be trusted to make their own decisions about their bodies. Women attempting to access a legal medical service must be able to do so without fear of harassment or intimidation.

It’s time for the UK’s pro-choice majority to say we’ve had enough of this kind of contempt and to stand up for our right to safe, legal abortion.
