GP survey of views on abortion not representative

A widely publicised survey for Pulse Magazine claims strong opposition to the introduction of local abortion care and the 24-week time limit. The poll, however, was of only 480 UK GPs out of the UK’s 40,000 GPs and cannot be seen as representative of all GPs’ views.

Louise Hutchins, Abortion Rights Campaign Coordinator said:
Image Every day Abortion Rights is contacted for help from women who face many weeks delay in accessing NHS abortion services. Department of Health pilot studies show that early medical abortions can be offered safely in primary care. We urge the government to work with supportive GPs to introduce local abortion services where appropriate to help reduce widespread delays and the distress that this causes.
