More Than 75% of Scots Support a Woman’s Right to Choose

Abortion Rights Committee Scotland welcomes the news that more than 75% of Scots are in favour of supporting abortion. This news is particularly welcome amid ongoing discussions about devolution of abortion law to Scotland. Read a great report on the poll from The Daily Record.

This news also highlights a discrepancy between abortion services being provided in Scotland and the general public’s support of the right to choose. Research is emerging that shows abortion is only available up to 18 weeks north of the border, despite the legal limit being 24 weeks. Beyond 18 weeks, women seeking abortion in Scotland are having to travel to England to have the procedure. Read researcher Hannah Pearson’s piece on our blog about the issue.
