Respect Women’s Choices on Abortion

Calling all pro-choice supporters! Respect Women's Choices on Abortion

Abortion Rights has launched a national postcard campaign – ‘ respect women’s choices on abortion’ to shape and inform the current debate and to ensure the pro-choice perspective is heard loud and clear at this crucial time.

After months of sensationalist tabloid stories, abortion has been propelled to the centre of the election campaign and the front page of every newspaper. Abortion Rights is very concerned that public and parliamentary opinion is rapidly being shaped by a misleading and ill-informed media frenzy, which paints a distorted picture that abortion is too easy to access and is available on demand, that there are too many abortions and that the time limit for abortion is too late.

The recent debate has focused almost exclusively on late terminations, which are extremely rare – 0.6 per cent take place between 22 and 24 weeks – but sometimes necessary. Emotive language and images are distracting from the real issues faced by women in Britain today and are characterised by the lack of statutory sex and relationships education and poor funding of and access to abortion services.
We are urging all pro-choice supporters to send postcards to their parliamentary candidates ahead of the election to ensure they respect women’s choices on abortion!
