‘Abortion and Choice Past, Present, Future’
Saturday 25 April, 10.30 – 4pm, Edinburgh
Contributers will include Judy Bury, Doctors for a Woman’s Right to Choose; Kainde Manje, NUS Scotland; STUC representative; Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Sexual Health representative.
As we saw last year with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill, the struggle for a right to choose is not won but ongoing. We are also aware that the present economic situation may have implications for access to abortions as pressure is put on public services. We hope to bring together those who have campaigned in the past with those who may be the campaigners of the future, women and men, older and younger, those who are pro-choice and those who are unsure.
The day will begin with a look back at the history of campaigns for safe and legal abortion told through images, music and people’s stories. The afternoon will offer workshops on the themes of: What is choice?; tactics and campaigning; an international approach.
The event will take place at: Workers Educational Association, Riddles Court, 322 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh
You can just come along on the day but we hope as many people as possible will register in advance. This will help us plan the day. It will also mean we can organise disabled access (limited) and arrange to help with childcare or dependent costs if needed.
Cost: low income/unwaged, student £2; individual waged £5; organisation £10. Please make cheques payable to Abortion Rights Edinburgh and post with your contact details and information about any additional support needs to Abortion Rights c/o STUC, 333 Woodlands Road, Glasgow, G3 6NG
