By now few of us will be unaware of the huge controversy generated by the government’s plans to radically reorganise the NHS. It is also clear that cuts to public services and spending will hit women – particularly low income and working class women – hardest. And there is a real risk that that down the line access to abortion services will be threatened.
Abortion Rights is starting it’s own ‘Cuts Watch’, to collect information on cuts, closures, delays and job losses in the field of abortion, contraception and sexual health services around the country.
Email us and let us know what’s happening in your local area and how you, your colleagues, friends and family are being affected, or forward us stories from your local press. We’ll post news regularly on our website, and will pass the info on to the TUC’s False Economy website, which is collating details of public service cuts nationally.
Here are a few disheartening examples to start us off:
Stockton-on Tees: Brook clinic’s contract terminated
Bingley, West Yorks: Hale Project sexual health team budget cut
Camden: Council axes sexual health co-ordinator
